Taking Care

I think my metabolism is changing. I’m hungry more often. I haven’t changed much with my eating. Still doing pretty well. So it must be my workout. I have been doing heavier weights and more muscle means we burn more calories throughout the day. So when I’m hungry, I tend to eat worse. I just want something that will fill me up. This past week it was chocolate from Valentine’s Day and Chick-fil-A waffle fries.
Saturday I decided to drink more water. I couldn’t get enough. Obviously I haven’t hydrated well this week either. For lunch I made this yummy pasta dish that I got from the Prairie Woman and had some steamed broccoli with it. That broccoli never tasted so good. So my body is craving those carb-filled veggies. I am not a big veggie eater, but I guess I need to start adding more. So that’s my food goal for the week…. more water and more veggies.
I’m finding that this fitness business is a lesson in paying attention to my body and making adjustments when things start changing. It’s all about taking care of myself and I’m not very good at that. I don’t always take the time to do the healthy things for myself. I don’t always listen to what my body is telling me, like, “slow down,” “eat something good,” “go to bed now.” We often think we’re being selfish if we take time away from helping someone else to take care of us. Nothing could be further from the truth. We must take care of ourselves first if we are going to be any good at helping others. We have more energy and peace and we give others the freedom and privilege to take care of themselves too.
