Tahiti would be a nice place to settle down…..

After watching the news lately, I could easily believe that the United States’ will soon implode due to the financial crisis, moral crisis in Washington and global warming. Maybe a small island in the Pacific would be a good place to relocate if I didn’t have to worry about tsunamis.

But consider this passage from Isaiah 8: 12-14, 17b NIV

Do not call conspiracy everything that these people call conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread, and he will be a sanctuary.

It’s easy to get caught up in what’s wrong with the world and lose our peace. Remember, God is still God.

Let’s follow Isaiah’s example in verse 17, “I will put my trust in Obama and gripe about him when he does something I don’t like.” (OOps, that’s not right.)

“I will put my trust in my retirement account and shake my fist in righteous indignation when another Wall Street investor imbezzles my life savings.” (That’s not it either…..)

“I will blame big business for the global warming problem and rage as I set them as an example of everything morally wrong with our society.” (Well, maybe not everything.)

How about this…… “I will put my trust in him.” (Him who?)

The Lord Almighty. The maker of Heaven and Earth, who sets all authority in place and holds us in his hands. (Oh, that Him.)

Instead of fretting over the drama on the news, “I will wait for the Lord…… I will put my trust in him [every day, every moment, with everything that is precious to me.]

Now that’s peace.
